Street Dance Telford actively compete in many competitions around the UK throughout the year.
There are many ways to get involved with competitions:
Solo competitions are run by all competitiors wearing a number and dancing on the floor at the same time or in heats (depending on number of entrants). The judges then go around the floor watching the dancers and choose who they wish to progress to the next round.
Solo's are broken down into age category and level youngest being u6. If you wish to compete in solos both Sarah and Laura can provide private lessons to help create a routine for your solo or to help improve your freestyle ability.
The duo competition is run exactly the same as the solo and almost always is split into age categories and level consisting with the solo event. In a duo it is always advised you and your partner are of the same or similar age as you always have to dance in the category of the oldest dancer. Sarah and Laura are both available for private lessons to help create you routine for your duo.
In a Street Dance Telford elite competition crew we average between 10- 15 dancers a team and have teams for age 5 upwards.
To be part of an elite team requires commitment from dancers as they have to attend 1 open class per week and 1 team rehearsal per week as well as signing a year long commitment agreement.
Sarah and Yasmin audition in the summer term (can sometimes vary) for spaces within teams, they will be monitoring the progress of dancers during classes and will be offering auditions to the most suitable candidates, aswell as holding open auditions and not everyone who auditions may be offered a place in the elite teams.
Similarly if we create a new team dancers who we feel are ready and have shown commitment to the dance school will be approached and offered an audition for the new team.
